How much fun is an apple unit? We always do an apple theme in the beginning of the year. In our district we follow a literacy model and during the grade level block we will read a story that is on a kindergarten grade level. Each lesson consists of Activating Prior Knowledge (APK), mini lesson, guided practice (which is often involved in reading the story), and closure.
A lot of our activities and lessons are Smartboard based. We thought why not share some of our Smartboard lessons with our blogger friends that we love so much. We've uploaded to our TPT site for free The Apple and How Do You Get Apples? Smartboard books, as well as the Smartboard file we use while teaching. We read The Apple or How Do You Get Apples? for the whole week. Each day a different skill is taught. This lesson file teaches character, compare/contrast, making inferences, and labels. Disclaimer: This is from the beginning of last year when we were not pros with the smartboard. As the year progressed, our love for the Smartboard grew, as well as our skills. This is just an idea for yall to see what we do during a small portion of the day. You can take it and tweak it as you please! Click here for your Apple Lessons smartboard notebook! Apple Lessons

Our Yearly Door Designs

Rachele has a hollywood theme in her classroom. The star on the door shows up from time to time as somewhat of a door mascot. Here are some of Rachele's doors:

Jamie Lee had a Mexican Fiesta theme in her clasroom. She is moving to a jungle theme for this coming school year. You can see her chili pepper door mascot often because she is better at taking pictures of her door than Rachele is very talented. Here are some of Jamie Lee's doors
